As you know, there isn't much choice for <br>100 pumps from the 'usual suspects;' it's either County or 'uprated.' <br>'Uprated' is a brand called 'Bastuck;' I believe they're a German <br>company. They do appear to have a somewhat better-designed impeller and <br>compared to County they turn smoother (you probably know I'm not a big <br>fan of County). Though otherwise a decent pump, the Bastucks have two <br>issues:<br><br>1) The thread for the heater return line--it's probably metric--will not <br>fit the 100s nifty brass valve; you're stuck using the barbed nipple <br>that comes with the pump. Disappointing since I've tried to keep my 100M <br>original as much as possible and I have a lovely, original brass valve I <br>can't use.<br><br>2) The pump body has a threaded plug; for god-knows-what reason the <br>threads are extremely loose and all but impossible to seal up. I tried <br>the usual teflon tape, red threadlocker, 'normal' pipe sealant and JB <br>Weld and none would seal even without being under pressure (the threads <br>are really rough). I ended up brazing the plug on one pump, but feared I <br>might have damaged the seal due to the heat required (oxy/acetylene) to <br>heat the cast iron. In desperation, I bought a County pump but the <br>bearings felt a bit rough. Tom Monaco knows someone he trusts <br>who rebuilds them, but the guy's backlogged and Tom hasn't remembered to <br>let me know when he gets some done (I've already pestered him a couple <br>times). Any rebuilt OEM is liable to run $400 or more. Oh, and last I <br>checked the Bastuck were sold out; BNP had some but apparently they took <br>them off the shelf (possibly because of the issue with the sloppy plug).<br><br>Wanna buy my new, in-the-box County pump?
