<html><body>Yes, much easier removing the bolts from the block and have the head on the bench to extract and replace the gasket properly. On the early 100, due to the tilt of the bracket, you cannot drop the middle fixing bolt from the canister and then get the unit out of the car-either topside or from bottom...you must remove the whole unit from the block and bench it-also easier to fill up with oil to prime the filter prior to starting. The later 100 production modified the filter body to take it away from the motor mount, but its still easier to take it from the block and replace the paper gasket as well. Way less mess and positive sealing a plus. I too changed to a spin on filter, but mine came from AH spares,
and I think I have a different WIX number.
<div>When I had the original system, I found it much
easier to take the whole assembly off the side of the block, change
the filter on the bench, and then reinstall with a new gasket. I
remember Rich Chrysler saying he did it that way too. A lot less
mess.</div>

‘80s because of the mess caused by the original canister, and the
need to special-order the replacement cartridges. This
adapter holds the spin-on filter parallel to the centerline of the
car, with the aft end of the filter lower than the front.
Changing oil is easy and causes no mess. I don’t know if this
type of adapter is still available, but the one I have is the only
one I’ve ever seen. All the others hold the filter
perpendicular and level to the block and seem to be sized for a
smaller filter than what I use.<br>
I have several Wix 51085 filters, and all except one (China) are
marked “Made in USA”. I remember back in the ‘60s that I used
to pass the Wix plant in Gastonia, NC about once a week.
