Years ago someone suggested cleaning up the oil and spraying athletes' foot spray on and watch where is displaces as the oil drips leaving a trail to the source. I would imagine that if the added rear seal dislodged, it would not produce more oil than if the
rear seal had never been added.<br>

said, the filter leaks can be hard to trace .

<div>I did some research awhile back about oil filter leaks and found that there are reports that over-tightening the canister can sometimes damage the sealing O ring to such an extent that it can cause a substantial oil leak.

changed oil in a club member's tri carb. went to get gas and noticed lots of oil under car. by the time i got back had lost about 4 qts or more of oil on a few mile drive. coming from rear of engine and coming out bottom joint and cotter pin hole. was only
a small drip before oil change. assume it is coming from rear main, but could it fail that fast? any other places to look?<br>
