<div dir="ltr">Jim<div><br></div><div>I fully agree with your description of an 'old' flasher unit but it was not a bi-metal strip but a wire under tension that extended and lost its tension when current went through it and cut off the current, similar to a bi-metal strip. The wire then cooled and shrank allowing the current to flow again.</div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Sun, 16 Oct 2022 at 04:55, Engl <<a href="mailto:engl@accesscomm.ca">engl@accesscomm.ca</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="auto">Hi Jim<div><br></div><div>You are 100% correct. The purpose of said strip was to bend when heated by current flowing through an associated heating element and interrupt (flash) the bulbs. If normal signal bulbs (1157 type) operated at nominal 2 amperes current flow, 2 in parallel (front and rear per side) flow 4 amps would flow through the flasher. A standard single junction LED can "light" with around 20 milliamperes of current. High current LEDs or LEDs with associated ballast resistors are necessary to flow the MUCH higher current needed by the non-electronic flasher</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Jim<br></div>_______________________________________________<br clear="none">Support Team.Net <a shape="rect" href="http://www.team.net/donate.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.team.net/donate.html</a><br clear="none">Suggested annual donation $12.75<br clear="none"><br clear="none">Archive: <a shape="rect" href="http://www.team.net/pipermail/healeys" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.team.net/pipermail/healeys </a><a shape="rect" href="http://autox.team.net/archive/healeys" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://autox.team.net/archive/healeys</a><br clear="none"><br clear="none"><a shape="rect" href="mailto:Healeys@autox.team.net" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Healeys@autox.team.net</a><br clear="none"><a shape="rect" href="http://autox.team.net/mailman/listinfo/healeys" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://autox.team.net/mailman/listinfo/healeys</a><br clear="none"><br clear="none">Unsubscribe/Manage: <a shape="rect" href="http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/healeys/ab7vf@yahoo.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/healeys/ab7vf@yahoo.com</a><br clear="none"><br clear="none"></div></div></div>
