My mechanic installed points in my BJ8 engine so he could static
time the engine and start it on the first crank on their test stand,
then re-installed the Pertronix when they were done running it in.
When I got the engine back in the car it would barely run and was
backfiring like crazy. I checked the timing, and it was about 20deg
retarded; looks like he forgot to re-time it.<br>

<div dir="auto">Generally speaking I think using pertronix with
points in the boot as backup is the way to go. The advantage of
points whilst on the road is you can more easily pre-time the
points by looking at the points while moving the dizzy back and
forth- you can get timing +/- 10 deg doing that - enough to
start. electronic systems are impossible to do this and take
more time to get right while on the side of the road.</div>

I keep a spare Pertronix (in my cars) and have replaced one
once. I burned it out, it did not fail<br>
Oh, and it took about 6 minutes to replace<br>
