<html><body>Upon disassembly of the engine for my 100, I also found .060 flat top pistons installed (just as Steven described). This car had been raced extensively, and as I understand it a common practice in the 50s was to use the pistons from a Dodge or Plymouth for more compression (10-1?). Of course I had to re-sleeve the engine to get back to .020 dished pistons (7-1 compression).<div><br></div><div>I was able to quickly sell the .060s on ebay to a racer for his Healey. set from Moss several years ago for the short block of my
BN2. The pistons came with three plain rings and grooves
only. Obviously they don't sell this set anymore. My
engine builder said it would be OK when I asked about the lack of
an oil control ring. He just said I would have less friction
this way. Kind of wondering now that I see all your
examples.</div>

instructions. See attached example from Wossner. The engine builder
and machine shop needs this information to properly fit pistons and
rings especially if the pistons are different that OEM.</p>

my pistons from Austin Healey Spares in the UK. They were 0.060
over M spec pistons and as you can see from the photo, they did
indeed need the fifth ring. Hope this helps with your situation and
thoughts.</p>

pistons. My machine shop couldn't figure out where they originated,
but the replacement rings we found for them that would fit were for
a 1950's Plymouth or Mercury. They were also flat topped and were
going to create too much compression, so that's why I went with the
M spec pistons.</p>

set was marked 100/100M, so I'm assuming they send the same set for
both and you just leave off the #5 (one piece oil control ring) on
the 100 pistons. This is what I decided to do. Now Moss's 4 ring
set on the website shows the three upper rings and the #4 ring
being the 3 piece oil control ring reinforcing the thought that the
#5 (one piece ring) should be disregarded. </span></p>
