That sounds better than even wheel bearing grease. This got me
thinking; I have some water pump etc. grease on the shelf I haven't
touched in over 30 years (my BJ8 originally came with a grease port;
no zerk or cup). This is probably like the plumber's grease and
should be ideal for this application; wish I'd thought of it in time
(oh, well ... next time ... there WILL be a 'next time' if I know my
cars).

Alan, did we answer your question? ;)
Anti-seize is good, but for water, I like plumber's heat proof
grease...a sticky reddish goo that you use on internal
plumbing fixtures that turn as well, like our brass heater and rad
valves. Yes, you have to disassemble the valve and coat the
tapered cone, then reassemble...works perfect-maybe too good, as
it easily moves position. Hank
Your photo made me check. It actuall does say off
and on the valve.
Still the lever seems ot be half way between off

learned not to fix anything that is working. So,
7:30 it is
until it starts leaking someday.

Did I miss the answer to the question? Is it
closed in the
counterclockwise position? My BJ8 is open
(getting heat) with the
lever at the 7:30 position viewed from the
front. It has always
been that way. In US plumbing the heat would be
off with the lever
perpendicular to the hose and valve.
