<html><body>Yes, and I agree with Michael, and Simon's note; a pressure test is in order. Problem always being obtaining a gauge and fittings. However, it is imperative that the pressure be 400+lbs. or it is not producing a good overdrive exchange. Electrics are one thing, and pressure another-then, wear factor a third.<br><br>If it does not hit 400, you might as well rebuild the unit, or at least clean it and retest. Disengagement is a result of the pressure being released, and the 8 springs pushing the clutch back to direct drive. You need the 400 lbs. to overcome the 8 springs, and <b>quickly</b> move the clutch forward to OD. <div>Yes Simon is correct. The 3/16" pin check was
probably satisfactory when the unit was new but it isn't reliable
60 years later.
<div>I would suggest removing the operating valve plug,
spring and top-hat them using a parallel punch check that the ball
rises at least 1/16" when the solenoid is energized.</div>
<div>After making any adjustments it is imperative that
the solenoid current draw is checked and drops to 2 -3 amps when
energized after everything is reassembled. </div>

<div>I mentioned before that my OD was VERY slow engaging.
Today I pulled the tranny cover. Checked to see if the 3/16
rod would align when OD engaged. I aligned perfectly.
So--I assumed the lever that is moved by the solenoid was adjusted
properly. checked lever clamp to make sure the nut was
tight. it was</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>an observation---the movement of the lever is small---moves,
but not much maybe it doesn't move much-just an
observation.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>As I mentioned before it disengages from OD
instantly---but going in is SLOW (minutes)or never-------.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Now I'm back to my puzzling stage:):) What is causing
it?? I'm using 30wt non-detergent. </div>
<div><br></div>
<div>OH--I pulled the operating valve and checked to make sure the
small hole wasn;t clogged. It wasn't.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>any other thoughts are very welcome.</div>
