I've seen a few discussions over the years by people wondering if
there was a way to put a circuit breaker on the starter circuit.
Maybe someone fitted a CB, or a fuse, along the long cable run from
the battery to the starter, under the car? A fuse would be easiest
but, of course, you'd have to replace it every time you had a short.<br>

Bob-there is nothing else under the dash on Healeys. There is no
ballast resistor which would affect starting. If the starter is
bad, it created a direct short to the batteries and by lifting the
Positive ground cable it relived the short. The only other
interruption in the line between the batteries and the starter is
the shut-off switch, which you eliminated. Hank<br>

up with using one. Keep thinking I would rebuild the

one that came with the car and never got around to it.

high torque
starter stopped operating. Determined it is the solenoid, so
I will
be removing it the starter for a bench test. Meanwhile, we
discovered an interesting electrical situation. When trying
to start the car the starter would short out and the
electrical
system would completely shut down. In checking the battery
connection, it was discovered disconnecting and reconnecting
the
ground from the battery the electrical system became live.
There must be a GFI type of device in the wires to and from
the
ignition switch. I doubt it was installed at the factory,
maybe by the restorer? What am I looking for under the
dash? It is a great idea, however I want to know what is it
and where it is located.</span></p>
