Guys-I had the good fortune to have my original BN1 100 water pump rebuilt by a outstanding machinist, Doug Worthington, who used a Delran seal/bush to do the job. It works perfect! No leaks. He used Delran on a huge piece of construction equipment subject to extreme vibration and solved that issue. I can only hope it will run on my car forever...or at least till I'm gone.
In my experience "upgraded" is another way of
saying " we didn't want to pay for the tooling for an accurate
reproduction ".

Thanks and in
checking the Moss catalogue this morning I see that in fact
they do sell the two side-by-side as you state at $96.00 and
$163.00 respectively. That is an 80% increase in price for
the "upgraded" pump and I must wonder what the pump achieves--and
how it does it--to justify such an increase. "Upgrade" might
have several meanings and given the propensity of these pumps to
fail, perhaps the term describes longevity versus performance,
with a better-quality seal. OTOH if the upgrade is in
performance that usually means increased water flow.
Unless the outer housing is substantially larger the cast-in "fins"
on the internal impeller cannot be that much larger and so I
wonder how such an increase would be achieved.

Michael,

The 'upgraded' pump sold by Moss, Bastuck and BPN all appear to be
the same:

https://www.bpnorthwest.com/water-pump-uprated-bn1-to-bn2.html

(if you look close you can see '--STUCK' on the pump body)

Claims '30% more flow,' BUT--there's always a 'but'--per the Moss
catalog it will not fit the OEM brass heater line valve/nipple. The
cheaper one Moss sells supposedly does, but best I can tell it's a
County product. I've bad experiences with County, but both Tom
Monaco and David Nock say they have fit many with no issues.

The new one from AHSpares appears to be different, but also comes
with a barbed nipple:

https://www.ahspares.co.uk/austin-healey/big-healey/cooling-heating-cht101-to-cht147/premium-water-pump-new-with-34-pulley.aspx

I started to remove my pump, but found the pulley was loose; pump
appears to be OK.

Thanks. The one Bastuck is selling appears to be the
'upgraded' pump AHSpares is selling.

It appears my pump is OK, the pulley had just come loose. Thanks
for the tips, guys.
