<html><body>Roger-those are the wrong dampners! The HD8 used the plastic topped ones and the length of them, compared to the brass, may be different- thus the oil slipping by. Brass ones used on earlier carbs. <div dir="ltr">
<div>For the SU experts ..<br></div>
<div>Have posted about this problem before - and no, it has
not gone away.</div>
<div>Bought new (not rebuilt) HD8 carbs from SU/Burlen about 7k
miles ago.</div>
<div>Problem is excessive use of damper oil.</div>
<div>Have to top up about every 1.5 tanks of gas usage.</div>
<div>Ultra careful about filling properly and to feel resistance
about 1/2 in above the thread.</div>
<div>Have tried all grades of oil from 20 wt to thick gear oil with
no change apart from accel. response times. Currently using SAE 30
nd.</div>
<div>SU have no real ideas either.</div>
<div>They are encouraging me to purchase new dampers - pn AUC
8112HB ... pricey too.<br></div>
<div>I am not convinced that will solve it but will do
so.<br></div>
<div>There is some very minor scuffing on the valves. See
photo.</div>
<div>The pistons drop freely and there is the classic clunk when
raised 1/8 in.<br></div>
<div>Perhaps this is normal ? maybe other owners don't check their
dashpots as frequently ? heavier springs to limit movement
?<br></div>
<div>any ideas as to what gives most welcome ?</div>
