The oil is to act as a damper and reduce the pistons in the carburetor from fluttering. Once the temperature gets above about 40 deg C the viscosity is very similar for all of the lubricants mentioned. Note 75W/90 gear oil is very close to 15W/40 motor oil. In the video he says to use 90 wt gear oil in the dashpot. He also said the lighter oils and ATF that so many people recommend contribute to the early wear and tear on the carb. Anyone else using this weight oil in the carb?
