This brought to mind a joke I used to play on my co-pilot/navigator
for our long Healey trips: I'd load up the sticky lock on my BJ8's
glove box with graphite, and when he opened it to get a map, etc.
got graphite all over his hands (it's a real pain to get off skin
and other surfaces). Worked every year.<br>

FWIW, 'my' locksmith Corinne recommended against graphite; she
said it gunks-up the mechanisms. IIRC, she used a WD-40 product
(but not the original WD-40, which I only use to displace moisture
on my nuclear-tipped Atlas missile warheads).<br>

<p>Well, you can have a joint with dry grit/dust or
with oiled grit/dust. I would still go for the
latter. Perhaps if you use a spray like WD40 you may
rinse the joint clean and lubricate at the same
time. Problem is: WD40 lubricant does not last very
long.</p>

recommend some form of lubrication. I am somewhat
surprised. I anticipated a split (50/50) decision.
Considering the dirty, dusty, gritty environment
that the unsealed linkage ball & sockets
operate in, I thought some would suggest the it is
better to not have any lubricant that would trap
& hold the abrasive particles.
