    FWIW, 'my' locksmith Corinne recommended against graphite; she said
    it gunks-up the mechanisms. IIRC, she used a WD-40 product (but not
    the original WD-40, which I only use to displace moisture on my
    nuclear-tipped Atlas missile warheads).<br>

                <p>Well, you can have a joint with dry grit/dust or with
                  oiled grit/dust. I would still go for the latter.
                  Perhaps if you use a spray like WD40 you may rinse the
                  joint clean and lubricate at the same time. Problem
                  is: WD40 lubricant does not last very long.</p>

                    have only received 3 replies & all 3 recommend
                    some form of lubrication. I am somewhat surprised. I
                    anticipated a split (50/50) decision. Considering
                    the dirty, dusty, gritty environment that the
                    unsealed linkage ball & sockets operate in, I
                    thought some would suggest the it is better to not
                    have any lubricant that would trap & hold the
                    abrasive particles.
