<p>..without actually seeing and feeling what is going on... my WAG
is that the clutch thrust ring is hanging up on the spring posts..
Where the springs replaced with new. Are they in the correct
positions? Will the oft used wack the brake ring with a hammer
release the condition?</p>

<div dir="auto">I recently experienced exactly the same problem
with newly rebuilt a BT7 side shift gearbox and overdrive unit
when turning it backwards before adding oil.</div>
<div dir="auto">Like you I suspected the Sprague clutch but
after considerable investigation the cause turned out to be
the new 2nd gear syncro ring which, when the box was turned
backwards, was winding itself tightly onto the cone of 2nd
gear. </div>
<div dir="auto">This is something I've never experienced before
but concluded that it was unlikely to present a problem after
the box has be run with new oil.</div>
<div dir="auto">This may not be the cause in your case but
certainly it is something worth considering. </div>

got oil pressure in the rebuilt OD. With the car
in 4th it shows about 500 psi on a gauge.
<div>However, I noticed when reattaching the drive
shaft that with the trans in neutral the output
won't rotate in the reverse direction. It
rotates easily by hand in the forward
direction. This is true before and after the
pressure has been released. Before getting
pressure in the OD it rotated by hand in both
directions. I haven't tried to engage the OD.
It's a hard mechanical stop. I'm afraid the
one-directional clutch be engaged and I don't
want to break anything.</div>
