Way back when I first got my BJ8 and didn't know what I was doing, I installed a new fan felt and got it really tight (the way I thought it should be). Drove 300 miles and the generator bearings crapped out. It took me three days in Washington, DC to find a shop that could fix it.

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">Healey Surgeons sent me a new one, but it wouldn't fit and it's all they had. I'm pretty sure it was the tight belt that ruined the bearings -- or at least, shortened their life.

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">You really only need to get the belt tight enough not to slip on the pulleys.

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">Steve Byers<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">HBJ8L/36666<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">BJ8 Registry<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">AHCA Delegate at Large<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">Havelock, NC <span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:#002060;">

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma", "sans-serif";">From:<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma", "sans-serif";"> Healeys [mailto:healeys-bounces@autox.team.net] On Behalf Of Michael Salter
Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2018 4:03 PM
To: healeys@autox.team.net; Frank Magnusson
Subject: Re: [Healeys] Adjusting generator belt

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial", "sans-serif";color:black;">Actually Frank you don't really want the belt too tight.

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial", "sans-serif";color:black;">With the bolts (all 4) loosened a little, pulling up hard on the generator body is sufficient.

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial", "sans-serif";color:black;">The trick however, is to tighten the slide bolt on the underside of the generator while you pull up on the generator.

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial", "sans-serif";color:black;">M

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:black;">From:<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";color:black;"> Healeys <healeys-bounces@autox.team.net> on behalf of Frank Magnusson <fmags@cox.net>
Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2018 2:21:12 PM
To: healeys@autox.team.net
Subject: [Healeys] Adjusting generator belt

Hello once again.

Just got my generator back on and cannot seem to get the belt tightened.
