<DIV>Agree with Michael and an addendum is to loosen the belt and and connect
the 2 bridged wires to 12V. The gen should motor and this then verifies all is
well with field, armature, comm., and that the brushes can carry current. I have
been fooled by just using a voltmeter when brushes are on their last legs -
volts but no amps capability.</DIV>

my experience the most reliable test for a generator is as explained in the

to make the generator gen..If you do have voltage there, remove the wire and
check for continuity to ground through the field winding..current flow is what
makes it all work ..Maybe put a dc ammeter in the field winding circuit and
see whats what<BR>
