install.  I've done several in recent years and I usually 'chase' around
the top of the spring with a wide-blade screwdriver, and repeated light taps
from a hammer, until it is snug inside.  If your retainer spring is a new
after-market one and a bit oversize could you perhaps nip it up a little to a
slightly smaller diameter with a bit of gentle persuasion in a vice?<u></u><u></u></span></font></p>

hands--but nothing like this.  Can only suggest you may have to grind the

lately on a center shift 4 speed gearbox. I am replacing one now with a new
spring and I am having a difficult time with it. I have replaced several in the
past but cannot remember having such difficulty with it. It seems that the last
"ring" of the spring is too large and it does not want to go in its
place to fit the washer. Consequently I cannot even think of fitting the
