purpose wide V shaped bend in the dipstick. You do not want it to
fly out.
When putting together a car which is in bits, assemble the
sub-assemblies one by one, not all together at the same time. It
is very satisfying to have e.g. the engine completely done, or the
front suspension, dashboard, rear axle etc. It also takes a lot
less space.
When all these sub-assemblies are done you are very nearly there.
What you need first is a good Workshop Manual and, more
importantly, a Parts Manual/Catalogue to see how and in what order
things are assembled on the drawings.

OK, maybe I'm the
dipstick. Today my son asked to have a try at putting the
dipstick in the block. Ten minutes later he comes walking in
the house and announces, "It's in." He tried to put it in
like I did, then started to twist it back and forth. After a
few seconds it slips to the bottom of the pan. When we pulled
it out (it needed to be twisted back and forth again). I took
a good look at it. The dipstick was not exactly straight. I
straightened it out the best I could and took some emory cloth
to the high spots. It slips in quite well now. I should have
remembered that EVERY little job of assembly on this car is a
battle. I have to make everything fit. Nothing is easy and
it's eventually going to drain my bank account. I have to
keep telling myself it's going to be worth it. Acquiring this
car as rolling empty shell has done nothing to help me in the
re-assembly. Having nothing to go on, I have to rely on as
many pictures as I can gather and help from you guys. So
please bear with me when I ask something stupid like today. I
should have known it was going to be a struggle as usual.
