positive that the plate is original to the car...unfortunately the solenoid was
missing when I got the car so I really don't know if it was perhaps fitted the
other way around.<BR></DIV>

style="FONT-SIZE: small; FONT-FAMILY: comic sans ms,sans-serif">One thing that
has just occurred to me is that my car, body #174, was one of the very early
cars that had the extra lug on the bell housing for a 3 bolt starter as can be
seen in this picture from the parts book.<BR><IMG alt="Inline image 1"

storage at the moment but I will go and take a look later this week to see if
the extra width of the bell housing necessitated that the solenoid be

I'm currently restoring is 500 odd body numbers later than my own.<BR></DIV>

the original cast aluminium starter solenoid is mounted on a plate which is
in turn mounted onto the bracket welded to the firewall as in this picture
viewed with the solenoid removed.<BR><IMG alt="Inline image 2"

"supplementary" plate is missing from the car that I'm presently working on
Body #793. <BR></DIV>

if this mounting plate had been dispensed with by the time this car was
assembled or if it is just missing from this car.<BR></DIV>
