and have not run into this problem. Not to say that it happens. I have heard of
it and there used to be a kit available to fix it. But the kit is no longer
available.</DIV>

<DIV>My suggestion to Bruce was to look at the head gasket first since it is a
much easier job to do first. As well as there is a oil galley thru the head and
if there is a crack in the head that may also be an issue.</DIV>

<DIV id=AppleMailSignature>This is what happens when you restore an engine
properly, e. g. you clean the stripped block thouroughly. Cast iron is quite
pourous and the wall between the oil channel and water jacket is quite thin.
When you clean the block you also wipe away any gunk that acts as sealant, so it
starts to leak oil into the water. Usually you can get away with this problem by
installing steel pipes in the oil channel that goes across the block and also
the channel up to the top.</DIV>

diving in to diagnose and fix the oil in the coolant. Hoping it's just the
head gasket, but since it started after the engine was done 11 years ago, I am
suspicious that it's the oil gallery-water jacket wall between number 4 and 5
cylinders seeping high pressure oil into the coolant. Has anyone actually had
