<p>At the time manufacturers had a lot less interest in oil leaks than we do now. Recall that Austin engines never had a mechanical rear main seal and the 2660s just had a thick wad of felt for a front main seal. The interest we have in sealing the mechanical
components of the cars is a fairly recent phenomenon. Todays owners would like to be able to maintain and present a clean car. Massive oil leaks mitigate against that, particularly for cars that see a lot of miles. I know I'd just like to be able to work on
the bottom of mine without being covered in grease and road grime.</p>

root cause however isn’t necessarily pressure, flange flatness, or goo failure.<u></u><u></u></span></p>
