 Subject: oil leak
I'd told you earlier that I had oil drops on my left pant leg when I went for a drive to the Bershires. The on line consensus was a leak from where the tubing from the engine brings the oil to the gauge. I pulled the driver's seat and crawled in, my head by the gas pedal. There was oil on the back of the gauge. It proved impossible to get a wrench (spanner) on the nut so I unshackled the harness that secures the gauge in the dash and tried to push it through into the cockpit but was only able to get it part way. through. Fearing I'd rupture the pipe bringing the oil to the gauge, I gave up and took it to Competition Motors, folks who had proviously done work on the Healey. They called today to inform me that the oil was leaking from INSIDE the gauge, and the entire gauge needed to be replaced. They could see oil in the gauge through its glass face. They found one on EBAy for $85. No one on the chat group had suggested this as a possibility. It's always something with a Healey. But other than that, it rides like a dream......r
