The car, a stick, (she has driven a stick all her life), is in Virginia Beach, VA. Virginia Beach is 330 miles away from Lancaster and I live 440 miles away in Laurel Park, NC, just southeast of Ashville, NC. This is her "dream car" and she wants to buy the car over the phone and I won't let her. I can put a deposit on the car to hold it but I am told the deposit is nonrefundable if I don't buy the car. Is there anyone on the list in that or a nearby area that is willing to check out the car? I don't want her to get burned on this. I am a long-time Healey owner of almost 50 years and I would really appreciate any help here. If anyone is willing to help out, call me at 606-875-1300. (These switches are use to turn the fan on and off in gas fireplaces). With this system the fan comes on when the ignition is switched off and the engine compartment temperature is high. The fan will continue to run until the under bonnet temperature drops below 50?C. The attached pic shows the switch mounted on a plate which clips onto the shock tower brace. Mine has been on for 4 years now and is perfectly reliable. This is also a great workaround if your engine tends to diesel after shutting it off?a common problem on the Sixes especially, noted even in contemporary road tests.?3) Turn the ignition key and, with the fuel pump and ignition switches OFF, crank over the engine for 15 seconds or so to pre-lube it with its own engine oil without washing down the cylinders with fuel and without putting any strain on the points or, particularly, a Pertronix unit.?4) Flip the fuel-pump and ignition switches to ON, let the fuel pump run for roughly 5 seconds (no more) to refill the float bowls, then start the engine as usual. You can also cut power to the ignition by simply yanking the hot wire from the coil by hand, of course?assuming a simple spade connector? but having two nifty toggle switches in the cockpit is even easier and slicker!? This is also a great workaround if your engine tends to diesel after shutting it off?a common problem on the Sixes especially, noted even in contemporary road tests.?3) Turn the ignition key and, with the fuel pump and ignition switches OFF, crank over the engine for 15 seconds or so to pre-lube it with its own engine oil without washing down the cylinders with fuel and witho ut putting any strain on the points or, particularly, a Pertronix unit.?4) Flip the fuel-pump and ignition switches to ON, let the fuel pump run for roughly 5 seconds (no more) to refill the float bowls, then start the engine as usual. You can also cut power to the ignition by simply yanking the hot wire from the coil by hand, of course?assuming a simple spade connector? but having two nifty toggle switches in the cockpit is even easier and slicker!? I run it every tank of our pleasure boat and back pack blower, as well. I add a can to gas of our 3 daily drivers about once a quarter. As you can see, I swear by it. I happened to have a pair of them, that I bought about 25 years back which, unlike the ones you can get these days, were made in the UK rather than India. We started by changing the drivers spring and to our surprise when we lowered the rear to the ground the ride height was absolutely correct. He has done a couple of long trips fully loaded (the car I mean) and the ride height has remained correct, unlike the recently manufactured pair that I bought for my BN1 which sagged almost 1" after a few months. For the BN1 I had to resort to making a pair out of the miscellaneous leaves that I had and then eventually adding air springs as in the attached pic to achieve a satisfactory ride. Just an FYI. What a concept! His mechanic made and installed a new brake line. I strapped the broken spring down with two hose clamps spliced together and made it safely home back to North Carolina. I ordered a new set of springs from Autofarm that I believe came from Ahead4Healeys in the UK. So far, so good with the springs after 30,000 miles. > > Steve Byers > HBJ8L/36666 > BJ8 Registry > AHCA Delegate at Large > Havelock, NC USA > > From: Healeys On Behalf Of Michael Salter > Sent: Monday, July 14, 2025 9:32 AM > To: Stephen Hutchings ; healeys at autox.team.net > Subject: Re: [Healeys] Leaf springs > > A good friend had exactly the same thing happen last year with his BJ8. > > M > From: Healeys > on behalf of Stephen Hutchings via Healeys > > Sent: Monday, July 14, 2025 8:55:53 AM > To: Healeys > > Subject: [Healeys] Leaf springs > > I was out for a drive on Sunday when I heard a metallic snap from the rear of the car(BJ8). > Turns out I?ve broken a leaf spring. > I?m looking at replacement sets but I?m concerned that new BJ8 springs will give me too much height at the back?my old springs had a nice ride height without the jacked up look that some BJ8s have. > So?are the earlier springs compatible? I would get new set. Observe height. If too high, take smallest (lowest) spring off and check height. If ?? Still too high?can?t imagine?purchase $70?
