A sudden failing suggests misadjustment rather than wear. I'd try adjusting the striker plate until the door latches fully, then adjusting until the door alignment matches what it used to be. You should be able to get both unless something is keeping the door from closing fully.

The driver side door on my 65 BJ8 is now suddenly failing to close completely. It closes well enough so that the door wont fly open, but incomplete closure results in dreadful rattling when underway. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to how to correct the problem. The striker plate looks worn no I'll be replacing that. Thanks.
