[Healeys] Clutch push rod. Slipping clutch/overdrive

I, for one, don't necessary expect a 'correct diagnosis'--or any
diagnosis, for that matter--when I pose a question to the List (or a
forum). By the time I post an inquiry, I'm usually out of ideas and I'm
just looking for a few more. Even absurd ones (first I've heard of this
particular issue, though I'm well aware of the function and frailty of
the foot valve mechanism). But that's just me.
