Hi Simon -
They are helpful for determining #1 TDC for a 100.
I also like to use them to inspect the condition of cylinders so that I
don't have to break the head to diagnose certain issues.
They can also be useful when routing wiring or cables in tight spots.
I haven't done it, but I think these might help check on the condition of
the throwout bearing as well.
