[Healeys] Any Ideas ?

I don't know, but I had something similar a while ago in my car. Reverse
just refused to engage but then first went unless you were very gentle
with it. It turned out to be a stuck cog and then we found that some
shim "adjustments" had been made to the 'box when it was being rebuilt.
The "adjustments" had shattered leaving bits in the fluid, which
eventually...
Sound a possibility that something like that happened?
