[Healeys] The single most confusing engine shutdown problem ever!

With all due respects Tom this sounds like the perfect situation where my
favorite adage applies.
"*Diagnosis BEFORE repair"*.
The repair system, usually adhered to in dealerships,  of "throw parts at
it until the problem is resolved" is the corolary of that process.
Some questions:
1. When the engine stops have you check for spark at a plug lead?
2. When the engine stops have you checked for fuel delivery at the
carburetors?
3. When you attempt a restart does the cranking sound normal?
4. Does the engine restart after everything cools down?
Almost certainly you will get the wrong answer to one of the above
questions (very unlikely more than one) and then you have something to
direct your attention to.
