[Healeys] Healeys Digest, Vol 16, Issue 60

 UK Suppliers:
I have purchased from AH Spares, Ahead4Healeys, and Denis Welch, all with good results.  Parts from Ahead usually arrive (in CA) in 3 or 4 days.  Prices are generally less than US suppliers, but shipping can be expensive.  A couple of friends recently did a big order at Denis Welch, about $10K, and were shortly thereafter surprised with a bill from the state of CA for sales tax.  My orders are generally around $200, sail right through Customs, and I've never been asked to pay sales tax.

I am considering importing from AH SPARES part for my Healey.  However, I am concerned about the problem of going through customs and the cost.  Have any members of this group had any recent experience?

I recently bought a large front shroud section from Cape.Shipping to the US was pricey, no problems with customs.

I imported parts from AH Spares and had no problems at all. In fact, I was very pleasantly surprised at the speed in which I received my parts. I just set up a wire transfer from my bank to theirs, paid the invoice and boom! The parts arrived safe and sound with no customs hassles.

And this was even in Covid times!

Bob,
I have purchased many times from AH Spares with good results for both quality and delivery. They normally ship DHL and there will be a separate invoice from DHL for brokerage and local taxes where the parcel is delivered. There is rarely any duty on parts for cars over 25 years old. DHL will charge about a $15 brokerage fee. No need for you to contact DHL they will find you.
The issue you will run into is DHL has a limited number of package sizes and it pays to group your parts order to minimize the shipping cost. AH Spares will quote the DHL shipping portion on their invoice but not the local taxes and brokerage.
I have purchased from many Healey parts suppliers and would rank AH Spares at or near the top. I trust this helps.

I recently purchased a lightweight transmission cover for my racecar from AH Spares. It fit in a large box and the shipping was more than 1/2 the price of the part.
