[Healeys] Overdrive accumulator piston with rings

Years ago I made an accumulator piston to use an O ring.
The result was an abject failure as tiny chunks of the O ring were sliced
off each time it passed over the pressure relief drillings in the housing.
Any clue as to how that has been overcome?
