Hi,       I’m assuming you’re talking about the gear shifter knob.I recently replaced my bj7 knob because the old one was stripped out and loose. I got a new one from Moss. The new knob was a smaller thread than the stick was so I just ran a bolt into the new knob which is hard plastic inside. It’s a good quality and has held up so far.Good luck. Dave Walsh

 It almost looks like it was taken from an E-Type, at least the small chromed piece at the top.

Looks like an epoxy resin or something similar to me. Real leather or vinyl would not be shiny like the image you sent.

My son got a similar one for his MGB then didn't use it. I got it and have =
installed it on my BJ8 and works and looks fine. He got his either from Mos=
s or British Parts Northwest.

The cover in the picture looks very oversized and messy. Although the principle looks promising and it could be made very attractive looking. The leather part should be very easy to make if you can use a sturdy old fashioned Singer or similar hand sewing machine or an industrial sewing machine.
