Harold, I can’t help with the damper other than to say it is different from the original damper on my BJ8. However, as for the history of the car and/or its engine, the BJ8 Registry may be able to help.

As of today, the registry documents the details and ownership history of 55% of total BJ8 production (9,742 of 17,712 cars built). I have acquired many historical documents with such data. Tell me the VIN of the car and I’ll tell you if I have any history for it. Of course, without a serial number there is no identification of the engine.

Subject: [Healeys] Strange Crankshaft Damper

A member our Healey club has started a restoration of a BJ8 with an unknown history. There wasn’t a serial number or any identify marks on the engine but the engine was painted blue and has a strange crankshaft damper. See attached picture. Does anyone recognize this crankshaft damper? Was it an aftermarket option back in the day? Did it come from a Westminster or ????

Regards,

Harold
