Funnily, in a sick kinda way, this movie about the last car on earth was set in 2011, the year my BMW was made:

It will eventually end up with driverless electric cars that we just tell where to take us, leave it at our destination and just pick another one for the ride back. All older driver required cars being deemed illegal.

My 2011 BMW is also dipstickless. I think some bean-counter or HR autonom told management to get rid of the dipsticks, meaning the marketing people, but the message ended up being sent to the engineering department.

I sometimes reflect that the manual for my bimmer is about 300 pages of generally unhelpful information and when I once had to add brake fluid could not even tell me where the reservoir was located, telling me to see the dealer (like hell, the interweb directed me to remove a plastic cover near the wiper linkage and I did this mystifying and most complicated task myself), yet the 100 page Instruction Manual for my ’48 M.G.TC explains how to R&R the head, engine, gearbox, do a de-coke, and even how to adjust the back-lash on the differential crown-wheel and pinion.

I remember when BMW’s motto was “A Driver’s Car”. Now it must be something like “A car to look good in at the golf club in” or something similar. They certainly lost their path in my opinion.

Yeah, I went to check the oil in my wife's 2015 BMW, no dipstick. I talk into a mechanic I know and he told me they don't have them anymore. Later on I bought a 2015 Mini Cooper s, again, no dipstick. The way you check the oil on this one is you have to be on a perfectly flat surface with the card operating temperature and running, then you step through the menu and there's something on there about checking the oil it takes one or two minutes and comes back and tells you how full it is. Personally, I think the whole thing defies logic, the dipstick was easier. Plus, in a pinch, you always had something to stick the marshmallows on at the fire pit.

I had a very interesting incident with my Audi A6 turbo.

I started the car a few mornings ago and after about 5 minutes, the dashboard screen popped up a message saying "Caution reduce your oil level. Contact your dealer." I was somewhat surprised at the message, thinking someone snuck into my garage overnight and added oil to the engine. So, I decided to check the oil level. After lifting the hood, I could not find the dipstick for the oil or for the transmission. I called the dealer who told me to drive the car very slowly to the dealership. At the dealership, the car was examined (electronically I suppose) and I was told everything was fine. I was informed that the radar sensors in the front grill sometimes get too wet and could cause false oil messages.

I was told that my car does not have oil and transmission dipsticks. It seems that the computers read everything and flash messages when something is wrong.

So, check the moisture content of the radar sensors in the front grill of your Healey if your car gives you an oil level message.

I'm just mentioning,
