[Healeys] X Bracing

Hello Ray

Good to hear from you.

I would suspect not. It really just makes it all a pain in the bum to remove the radiator and that has to be done through the grille opening. There has been no cracks in the shroud, except for the time I ran into a dog.

The front of the radiator is also under the front shroud. I have since added a curved piece of steel that joins the two uprights and above the radiator to support the front of the shroud opening.

Best wishes

Patrick, Very cool to see the hand built modifications to the frame and sub structure. So do you think the radiator mounted solid between the two uprights effectively replaces the two X braces to counteract the shear forces?

Hello

I certainly wouldn't remove it either.

However having said that attached are a few pics of BN3/1 taken during the
late 1970s and you can see how the DHMC altered the front to make everything
fit. They removed the X bracing and added in two large uprights. In between
that and very tightly is the radiator which incidentally is the same as our
Healey Duncan, but pressurised.

Price, the X-brace stiffens the front of the chassis in torsion and helps to
dampen vibrations. Without it, you may develop cracks, especially in the
front aluminum shroud.

What are the ramifications of removing the X bracing from the front of my
BJ8? Can it be moved to allow for an electric fan?
