I’ve used the 3 in 1 oil too for many years, both in SU’s and Strombergs. The motor oil (20wt), not the multi-purpose oil. As you say the little bottle it comes in is the perfect dispenser for getting into the carb.

I too use 3 in 1 machine oil which is SAE 20 weight--perfect for SU's, and it comes in a handy little can perfect for stowing away in some little corner of the boot.

I watched a recent John Twist YouTube video today on fitting H type SU carbs to a T type MG.  In the video he says to use 90 wt gear oil in the dashpot.  He also said the lighter oils and ATF that so many people recommend contribute to the early wear and tear on the carb.  Anyone else using this weight oil in the carb?  All my life I have been putting 20 wt oil in the dashpot.
