Thanks for your positive comments. I love it also as it turns over the engine which starts every time now.

 

Let’s hear from others on this list who have been using the gear reduction starter for longer duration, if they have had any problems such as wear on the flywheel gear teeth.

I've had a gear reduction starter on my Healey for 3 yrs. No issues. Turns the motor over much faster. I love it.

Surely a starter is digital - it either turns the engine over or it doesn't ?

Our standard starters are series dc motors that have increased torque (more amps) whenever the motor starts to stall.

So lots of amps required and this is why battery terminal condition and good grounds are so important.

So is the reduction starter a smaller, faster shunt motor with mechanical gearing to increase the torque ?

Probably lighter too ?

Just wondering ....
