[Healeys] Water pump leak

Hey Listers!Is it reasonable or unusual for a leak to develop through/out of the water pump gasket?  This pump has been on the engine for maybe 30 years or more - not sure.  There is a visible slow leak but does not seem to be coming from the shaft as normal place.
