[Healeys] 3000 lifters

This is the style of lifter I got for my engine rebuild. So far, so good, a bit over 1000 miles with more to come. NFI, just satisfied so far and as you can see in the photo, the flat does indeed go to the bottom.

Yes it does. The flat goes from the lowest hole in the lifter to the bottom. It's a very small/narrow flat. Enough for oil to escape.

In my race car (a 3000) I run MGC bucket lifters. They have a small hole in the side that allows oil to exit.  The stock pedestal lifters are heavier than bucket lifters, put more side load than bucket lifters and fill up with oil. The old trick for racers using pedestals was to machine a flat on the lower side of the pedestal to allow oil to  drain.
