Me too read all his novels when growing up and particularly remember enjoying "Trustee from the toolroom'.

To add to Scott’s interesting link, here is one that covers a lot of Nevil Shute racing his XK140 in the 1950s.

You can easily ‘join the dots’ and see why he based his novel around Melbourne, and the racing at Phillip Island.

Hello

His real name was Nevil Shute Norway, but he wrote under the name of Nevil Shute.

When younger I read through all his books, each of which I truly enjoyed.

While born in the UK, Shute moved to Melbourne, Australia and lived there until he died in 1960.

He was also keen on motor racing and was quite competent in his Jaguar XK140 racing it at Phillip Island.

As you’re aware, the film was based on a book of the same name by Nevile Shute. I’ve always been a great admirer of this novelist. He was plainly a very talented aero-engineer as well as being a best-selling(?) novelist.

See:-

A slightly understated biography. Rather like the man.

“On The Beach” is a great book. Or try “A Town Like Alice”.
