Good one , Bob! However, my tach cable is different on each end. I
think stock Positive ground works well. I floated my Smiths clock and
it has been that way for years. Hank

The article on healey.org documents tells how to convert an
electronic tach. For the mechanical ones, you just have to reverse the
cable.

The original pumps had a capacitor over the points which made them
dual polarity. At a later stage SU changed the capacitor for a diode
which made the pump polarity sensitive. If you remove the diode and
fit a transil over the points the pump becomes dual polarity.

The very early pumps with the single points may not have had any
capacitor or diode fitted, which would lead to spark erosion of the
points. These were also dual polarity.

The later electronic/solid state versions are all polarity sensitive.

clocks are dual polarity. Later ones are polarity sentive.

-Change over the wires from the Amp gauge.
