[Healeys] Odd steering attachment

Are we sure its not a power steering assist ram like used on the 1963-65 Corvette? Just a thought….

Fantasy Junction have a BJ8 for sale which, upon close examination of the photos shows what appears to be a steering damper on the steering cross rod.

Has anyone else ever seen this type of device on a Healey?
