[Healeys] Odd steering attachment

I’ve seen it [and had it] on 4x4 trucks that were lifted – typically 3-4” or more – but never on a vehicle as low as a Healey. I can’t imagine why a Healey would need or benefit from a steering dampener [unless maybe to compensate for a LOT o slop in the steering, but sheesh!].

Fantasy Junction have a BJ8 for sale which, upon close examination of the photos shows what appears to be a steering damper on the steering cross rod.

Has anyone else ever seen this type of device on a Healey?
