If it doesn’t work the gears can’t wear. Hahaha.

I am glad it worked out David.

Frozen solid, as I supposed!

The "output' worm gear/pinion was surrounded by solidified grease.

All clean now and the gears appear to be in first-class condition!

Thank you, John.

I noticed the dimples of course, but my experience of core plugs is limited to those for water

passages and casting apertures which are normally destroyed during removal.

Project for the week-end. I will photograph anything interesting.

I have rebuilt them many times and have never needed to replace the core plugs. They are dimpled in place and when you remove the dimple the core plug comes out and you just reinstall the core plug and dimple it back in. I also have never worked on one that is seized. The angle drives I have rebuilt only needed to have the internal flexible cable replaced. I have used an old speedo cable and shape the ends to fit with a grinder.

It's completely seized and three weeks completely submerged in penetrating oil has had not one whit of effect so I'm going to take it apart. Does anyone know where I could lay hands on new sub-miniature core plugs, please?
