I have a similar on my early 3000 BT7 which was where the temp sender for
the electric choke was removed.

I have been sent a short article about the blanking plate fitted to the
front of the 100 engine. Photo attached.

 

Would anyone know the purpose of the plate? Perhaps in other engine
installations the opening it covers serves another purpose?
