In addendum to yesterday's rant.  The one valve guide that is too big for the seal to fit thankfully is an exhaust valve.  I am just going to leave it off.  Not a necessity on the exhaust valves. So onward to the next assembly problem I run into.  Head rockers installation next.  If anyone has any tips for a four cylinder head installation, now is the time to speak up.Mike MacLean

Well, for today's restoration rant I am going to talk about valve seals.  The head I bought from my late restorer friend was supposedly ready to install.  Not hardly.  I removed the valve springs to make sure all the valve seals were there.  I found o-rings on the valve stems at the valve guides and two valves even had the seal at the top right under the collets.  On initial startup of a 100M this head was on a valve bent damaging the valve guide and probably the hole in the head that the valve guide was pressed into.  I bought eight new valve guide seals from British Car Specialists a few days ago.  The box of seals came in today so I went to install them everything went fine until I got to the last valve. (the one that was replaced)  I removed the springs and found a valve guide much larger in outer diameter than the rest of the stock valve guides.  The seal will never fit over this valve guide.  Of course it's an intake valve.  It's always something.Mike MacLean
