  I was searching for information on Google about the recommended length the inner tachometer cable should protrude from the outer sheath at the instrument end as I am replacing the cable on my Bugeye.  The tachometer stopped working halfway home from the mechanic (R&R the Datsun transmission for bad synchros).  The very end of the inner cable broke off in the gear reduction drive unit at the back of the generator.  Before installing the new cable I seemed to remember that there was a caveat on how much the inner drive cable should protrude to prevent damage to the tachometer.  Too long and it would damage the instrument.  No telling where the repros are made these days.  I finally found the info from a reprint of an old Smiths manual on the Vintage British Cable web site. http://vintagebritishcables.com/images/ServiceInformation2.jpg  

Lots of good info on this Canadian web site besides they make superior OEM style cables instead of the (Chinese) foreign crap we are used to from the usual suspects.
