I wish I had known this when I shared lunch with Mel Torme at a restaurant in the Haye Adams Hotel across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House circa 1985. Mel was a collector of classic firearms, originally Colt single-action revolvers, as I understood it, and later German Lugers. I was employed at the National Rifle Ass'n, then located on Rhode Island Avenue in the District, and was somehow given the privilege of going to lunch with Mel and a couple of other NRA employees. I believe he was visiting NRA headquarters to talk to one of the association's attorneys about his gun collecting hobby, possibly about an import issue. It was an enjoyable lunch, and "the Velvet Fog" was a perfect guest. I missed this chance to talk Healeys with him, as I owned my first in 1963 while living in Dayton, a city he mentions. Thanks for offering his Healey story.
