Charlie,
I cleaned my badly tarnished 1960 AH 3000 grill with Quick-Glo. I was very
happy with the result and I can't see any damage to the to original finish.

Michael,
My grill, which looks to be original, is tarnished and if it is a dull
chrome finish then I can be fairly aggressive in cleaning it.
Regards,
Charlie

Hi Charles,
Curt Arndt has researched this finish and determined that it was known as
"Butler(s) chrome". I have asked a number of plating specialists about this
finish but they avow all knowledge.
I recently had a set of teeth re-plated and then, after agonizing over it
for a while and doing a few experiments, gave the polished chrome a light
bead blast.
Very pleased wit the results as the finished product looks exactly the same
as the NOS set on my concours gold car.

Grille 100
*
Grilles have a chrome surround with a rounded top, and matte finish chrome
teeth. Some late factory replacement grilles had chromed teeth, but it is
believed that no cars were originally produced with this grille
*
Most original polished chrome grille surrounds have a smooth round top.
However many other original ones have been found with a slight flattened top
and these will be also accepted without deduction.
*
Two pegs locate the grille position at the bottom, and five threaded studs
across the upper curve anchor the grille in place to the bodywork with
U-shaped claw washers, lock washers, and nuts. These claw washers catch the
upper lip of the aperture.

Would someone please tell me what the finish is on the vertical slats of a
