[Healeys] Reversing light wiring

Why not simply wire a toggle switch to the lighting feed?

There are great spring-loaded momentary toggle switches that could do 
the job. When released, they spring back to the Off position, so a 
driver wouldn't inadvertently leave the reverse lamps on.

These switches conform to the KISS principle.
